Friday 27th May – relax travel and hike **** sunny and hot!
We spent the whole glorious sunny morning relaxing, reading, eating
breakfast, yoga – all in the wonderful surroundings of our spot up the
Col du Montaud. We saw even less people than yesterday but more Chamoix,
there were 5 at one point then three wandered off across the cliff face
leaving the others in the trees! About 1.30 we decided to move on and
packed the van up, which never takes very long. We took our time getting
down the damaged road, looking at the various walk signs to see if there
was a way to make our walk yesterday a circular one. There did appear to
be two passes but they would have added a lot more miles to our trip! We
stopped in the valley to look at the point where we had stayed before
carrying on down to join the free motorway around Grenoble. It really is a
city in an amazing setting. Mountains all around – beautiful. That all
went very well but when we left the motorway we really made a mess of
finding Lac Monteynard, even though we have been there before and found it
first time last time!! Anyway we arrived around 4 and were surprised there
were not more campers here as it is a bank holiday weekend (it is at home
and as it is witsun and a religious holiday we are assuming it is here
too). There were only two in our section so we parked up in the same place
as before and had a very late lunch and relaxed watching the kitesurfers
having fun on their hydrofoils while the windsurfers struggled. Around
5.45 we decided to walk to the Passerolle du Embrun (the Himalayan bridge
we biked over and walked to last time we were here). The walk was
beautiful around the lake and scrambling up the path through the woods.
The best bit though were the meadows which were absolutely full of glorious
wild flowers and smelt lovely:) We realised about two thirds of the way
there that we had probably done too much with our epic 9 mile hike
yesterday but we pressed on and made it to the bridge where we saw a flock
of black kites circling and tumbling in the sky and a hobby hunting :) We
walked over the bridge and had a few emergency wine gums and some water!
Started the long walk back around 7.30 and got back to the van around 8.30.
Totally exhausted and our legs are finished! Had a quick spam and egg tea
and put the mozi nets up because now the temperature has gone up the
mozzies are on the move!!
